What is Near Field Communication?

An instance is where a consumer is able to store their credit card information in a virtual wallet that is online such as Google Wallet and when making purchases, they can use their Near Field communication enabled mobile device to accept the transactions and complete the payments. This same technology can be used by a business that has a social website page for sharing contacts, images and files among other marketing related content with their followers.

The mobile devices have to be close to each other by less than 4 centimeters to be able to connect because the Near Field communication is just a set of short-range wireless technologies. It also operates at 13.56 Megahertz on ISO/IEC 18000-3 air interface and the exchange rates range between 106kilobytes and 424 kilobytes. Normally what happens when two NFC smart devices need to connect, there is always the initiator which is the device that generates a radio frequency field to connect to the target mobile device. The fact that Near Field communication technology is short-ranged, it becomes ideal for crowded places where they could be other signals. It is also ideal because of the short range distance it works under; the possibility of an intercepting signal is greatly reduced. This technology is backed and supported by the consumer electronic (CE) and a lot of many mobile device manufacturers and even financial institutions. These organizations use this single NFC technology to supports other leading contactless technologies and infrastructures such as the QR codes and others.

Near Field communication compliments other consumer wireless technologies by utilizing the elements that are key in already existing standards for contactless card technology. A consumer can utilize just one NFC enabled device on many existing contactless card technologies.
